According to research by Polskie Koleje Linowe (PKL), 64% of Poles spend their time in the mountains primarily hiking and climbing.
Those who choose to explore the surroundings of Kasprowy Wierch on foot often turn to the “Kasprowy Wierch” mobile app developed by PKL. The app has been around for several years but has undergone a number of updates — the most recent one in 2024.
The “Kasprowy Wierch” app, once awarded in Boston, USA, at the Mobile Trends Awards and recognized by the jury as the best mobile app in the “Travel and Tourism” category, proves to be extremely helpful when planning and navigating trails in the Kasprowy Wierch area. Users can choose from nine trails starting from Kuźnice or Brzeziny, leading through the Gąsienicowa Valley, Myślenickie Turnie, or Kopa Kondracka. The routes vary in difficulty and estimated time, allowing hikers to pick one suited to their condition and schedule. Key landmarks and points of interest are marked and described along each trail.
The app uses augmented reality technology to show how certain places looked 80 or even 100 years ago — the historical cableway infrastructure and cabin designs are great examples.
For those choosing the cable car ride, the app also offers an audio guide, enriching the journey with fascinating insights into the cableway's history, operations, and the panoramic views from the cabin.
A fun way to enhance a mountain hike is to combine it with mobile quests. These trail-based games can serve as additional motivation — especially for children.
The “Kasprowy Wierch” app is also a reliable source of practical information about the operation of the cable car and mountain infrastructure, including weather forecasts.
The mobile guide works offline — an internet connection is required only for updating content, which users can choose to do before their hike. The app’s content is available in both Polish and English.
It also features a 3D map of Kasprowy Wierch, presenting the terrain and relief of the Tatra region in an engaging way. It includes clickable trails and landmarks, a view-switching option for different times of day and year, and highlights PKL infrastructure, ski slopes, ski routes, mountain shelters, and dining spots.
The app consistently receives high ratings (4.5 on the App Store and 4.65 on Google Play), with over 20,000 users.
